Rajesh Khanna in Hindi Film Industry

Popularly known as Rajesh Khanna, Jatin Khanna became well known and ruled the Hindi film industry for more than ten years. Recognized as the first superstar of film industry, he boasted the largest and maddest fan following, especially thousands of girls. His unique way of dialogue delivery and stylized acting continues to make him popular among mimicry artists.

Competing against thousands of contenders, he won the All India Talent Contest because of his skill for acting. His performance in his debut film Aakhri Khat and his next movie Raaz won him the All-India United Producers' Skill Competition. His contract with the United Producers landed him in movies like Aurat, Baharon Ke Sapne and Aradhana. The performance of Rajesh Khanna was praised in the film Aradhana, which also saw Kishore Kumar re-entering into films as a singer.

Movies like Bawarchi, Anand and Namak Haram saw Rajesh Khanna in totally various characters, portrayed convincingly. Mumtaz was considered to be his best on-screen co-star. This pair has eight hit movies to their credit. His on-screen chemistry was good with Sharmila Tagore, which made way several of his hit films in Bollywood. He has acted opposite to almost all popular actresses like Shabana Azmi, Poonam Dhillon, Tina Munim, Hema Malini and Asha Parekh of those times. He was also known to be very friendly with his associates and colleagues.

He was called as Kaka by his close friends and also by actress and wife Dimple Kapadia. Such was his charisma that people almost mobbed him when he appeared in public. His car was covered with lipstick marks; female fans sent him letters in blood and married his image. Bombay University included an essay, 'The Charisma Of Rajesh Khanna' in their textbook. Such was the effect of his charisma on fans. He gave fifteen continuous hits in the span of 69-72 and this record is unbroken to this date.

Rajesh Khanna rose to success again after a downfall, with films like Agar Tum Na Hote, Avtaar and Hum Dono, being some of them. He discontinued acting when he served the position of MP for the New Delhi constituency. He entered the film industry again with Kyaa Dil Ne Kaha and Aa Ab Laut Chalen. Though his appearance in movies after 2000 has reduced, fans can get to see him make a comeback in television serials.
