Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation conducts new 'rapid hardening technique' trial to fill potholes
August 23, 2022
KALYAN: Amid the constant problem of potholes on Kalyan-Dombivli roads and the demand to fill them before the Ganesh festival, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) commissioner and senior civic officials inspected the demonstration of the new 'rapid hardening technique' to fill the potholes on 90 feet road.
The contractor of a cement company told the KDMC Commissioner Dr Bhausaheb Dangade that with this technique, special concrete containing various admixtures is prepared and filled in potholes and it sets completely in 45 minutes to one hour, and after six hours the road can be opened for traffic.
The contractor has claimed that potholes filled using this method lasts for longer time.
Sapna Koli, city engineer of KDMC said, "At present, road under potholes filling technique can be used only after 24 hours. Today, we have taken a trial of this new rapid hardening technique. The company claimed this technology is good but every topography and region’s climate is different and the cost of this technology is also high, but we will see its sustainability and if it is found good, then in the coming time this technique will be used to fill potholes on the main roads across twin city."
Due to heavy rainfall, the potholes which were filled in the twin city dug up again. The KDMC claims that it has started filling potholes using asphalt before Ganesh utsav but in reality, in many places, contractor is seen filling potholes without removing rainwater from potholes.
