Pre-monsoon showers in parts of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai

MUMBAI: Pre-monsoon showers lashed many parts of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai on Thursday evening. It was the first time this season was witnessing significant rain activity accompanied by thunder and lightning. The last few days had been witnessing a very light drizzle.

The IMD Doppler radar on Thursday evening indicated moderate-intensity clouds leading to lightning and thunder in the city and adjoining areas. Areas like Andheri, Ghatkopar, and Andheri West saw a significant downpour.

Earlier on Thursday the IMD said that conditions have become favorable for further advancement of monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian sea, Goa, some parts of south Maharashtra, some more parts of Karnataka.

Meanwhile for the weekend, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai with thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places being very likely.
