Savitribai Phule Balsangopan Yojana: Fund of Rs 120 crore approved for childcare scheme; Relief for one and a half lakh children
After a year of waiting, the fund gets the green light.
June 9, 2026
Thane: The state government has approved a fund of Rs 120 crore in the first phase of the Golden Jubilee Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Child Care Scheme implemented under the Women and Child Development Department in the financial year 2026-27. This decision will provide great relief to about one and a half lakh beneficiary children in the state.
Earlier, there was widespread dissatisfaction as the subsidy had not been deposited in the accounts of many beneficiary children even after the end of the financial year. Although the financial year 2025-26 ended on March 31, 2026, the benefits for that year have not been fully disbursed yet. Only the benefits for the month of April 2025 have been deposited in the accounts of some beneficiaries and the remaining amount is pending.
Milind Kumar Salve, member of the Mission Vatsalya Government Committee and state coordinator of Maharashtra Sau Ekal Mahila Samiti, had drawn the government's attention to this. He said that this is an important scheme for the education and upbringing of beneficiary children and many families are facing difficulties due to non-availability of funds in time.
The Commissionerate had received a total of Rs 181 crore 66 lakh 67 thousand, including Rs 60 crore in February 2026, Rs 115 crore by the end of March and Rs 6 crore 66 lakh 67 thousand under the centrally sponsored scheme. Some benefits were distributed from this fund; however, this fund proved to be insufficient compared to the pending benefits.
Meanwhile, after continuous follow-up with the government by the State Convener of the SAU Ekal Mahila Samiti, Heram Kulkarni, State Coordinator Milind Kumar Salve, and various coordinators and activists across the state, the process of distributing funds has begun rapidly in the new financial year.
A provision of Rs 200 crore has been made for this scheme in the budget for the year 2026-27. Out of this, Rs 120 crore has been disbursed to the Women and Child Development Department in the first phase and this fund has been transferred to the Commissionerate. Out of this, Rs 4 crore 31 lakh has been reserved for the NGOs working under the Child Care Scheme.
Get benefits every month!
Instead of giving a lump sum at the end of the financial year, the subsidy should be deposited in the accounts of the beneficiary children regularly every month. If sufficient provision is made in the budget, no child will be deprived of the benefits, said Milind Kumar Salve, member of the Mission Vatsalya Governing Committee.
Who is the plan for ?
Under this scheme, Rs 2,250 per month is directly provided through DBT to orphans and orphaned children for education and upbringing by the Women and Child Development Department. Also, children who have lost their parents during the Covid-19 period get a subsidy of Rs 4,000 per month under the Central Government's PM Cares for Children Scheme. There are about 1.5 lakh beneficiaries of both these schemes in the state.
