June 11, 2026

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the disruption is necessary to connect a newly laid 900 mm water pipeline and decommission a section of the existing 813 mm pipeline

arts of Thane in Maharashtra will experience a 24-hour water supply shutdown from Friday morning as pipeline connection work linked to an elevated road project is carried out by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), an official statement said on Wednesday.

According to the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), the disruption is necessary to connect a newly laid 900 mm water pipeline and decommission a section of the existing 813 mm pipeline.

The shutdown will begin at 9 am on Friday, June 12, and continue until 9 am on Saturday, June 13.

The work is being undertaken as part of the elevated road project between Anand Nagar and Saket. MMRDA has already completed the laying of 800 metres of the new 900 mm diameter water pipeline out of the planned 2.2-kilometre stretch, officials said.

To make the new pipeline operational, authorities will carry out connection work, requiring a complete suspension of water supply in affected areas.

Areas affected

The localities including Indira Nagar, Sathe Nagar, Ambewadi, Dawale Nagar, Savarkar Nagar, Lokmanya Nagar Pada Nos. 2, 3 and 4, Chaiti Nagar, Perera Nagar, Jhanje Nagar, Shree Nagar, Kisan Nagar, Shivtekdi, Shanti Nagar, Kailas Nagar, Bhatwadi, Warli Pada, Rupadevi Pada, Ram Nagar, C.P. Talav area and Yeoor region will face a complete disruption in water supply during the shutdown period, the statement said.

Low water pressure expected after restoration

The civic body has advised residents that even after water supply resumes on Saturday morning, some areas may experience low water pressure for one to two days.

TMC has urged citizens to store sufficient water in advance and use it judiciously during the shutdown period.

The municipal corporation has appealed to residents to cooperate by conserving water until normal supply is fully restored.

Earlier water cut

Earlier this month, several parts of Thane had experienced a 24-hour water cut on June 4, as authorities implement precautionary measures to manage water resources amid concerns over a possible delay in the onset of the monsoon.

The officials had stated that the water supplied through the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) network will be suspended from 12 pm on Thursday, June 4, to 12 pm on Friday, June 5.

As per the civic body, the water cut will affect areas receiving water from the MIDC's Jambhul Water Treatment Plant.

The TMC also highlighted that the decision was taken following a review meeting with the Water Resources Department on May 14. Officials cited the influence of El Nino and the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), which could delay the arrival of the monsoon and increase the risk of water scarcity in the coming weeks.
