Maharashtra : 11am Deadline for Entering exam Hall intact, Reiterates SSC & HSC Board

7th Dec, 2017

THANE: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education on Wednesday reiterated that SSC and HSC students will have to enter the exam hall at the time the paper begins - 11am or 3pm.

After a section of the media reported that the board had taken back its diktat and would now allow students a 30-minute grace period, the state confirmed it hadn't done so. "Students are expected to enter the exam hall at 10.30am for morning exams. They will be allowed to enter up to 11am when they can start writing the paper. We have issued a (statement of) justification to schools so they communicate to students the deadlines they need to adhere to," said Krishnakumar Patil, secretary of the board.

The board on November 29 had announced it was doing away with the 30-minute grace period that allowed students to enter an exam hall even after the paper had started. This was done as question papers were being circulated on social messaging groups before the exam started. Board officials said an exception would be made only in case of extreme emergencies, especially those which affect a larger number of students. "We expect students will be responsible and ensure they don't reach late. That said, they must rest assured that every decision will be taken in their best interest in case of a problem," said Patil.

School education minister Vinod Tawde too said no concessions will be given to latecomers. "When we except students to enter the exam hall at 10.30am, the time up to 11am is the grace they are getting. We will not allow students to enter late," he said. For morning exams, students will be given answer sheets at 10.40 and the question papers at 10.50. At 11 they can start writing.
