TMT adds 39 New Buses on Ghodbunder-Mira Road Corridor

10th Nov, 2017

THANE: As many as 39 new buses inducted to the TMT fleet on Thursday will soon be plying on the busy Ghodbunder and Mira Road corridor.

With the induction of the new 33-seater buses, the total number of buses in the TMT fleet is 391. Out of this, 30 are air-conditioned.

Guardian minister Eknath Shinde, mayor Meenakshi Shinde and municipal commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal were present during the induction ceremony that took place on Thursday.

''The buses are part of the 190 new transport buses that were received under the JNNURM funds. Besides these 39 buses, around 150 buses have already been inducted to the fleet, while the remaining will soon be pressed into services,'' said an official.

Daily commuters travelling along GB Road and Mira Road corridor have been demanding for more buses since a long time along this route as it is a busy stretch.

Many have to either rely on autos that are expensive on the pocket or on private vehicles. At times, commuters are forced to take private vehicles, leading to more traffic congestion.

The decision to add more services in these areas was being explored since a long time, said officials.

"We are planning to deploy more buses along the Ghodbunder-Mira Road stretch. Several areas on the other side of the Eastern Express highway have poor connectivity within the city and station. We will introduce new buses on Kolshet, Pawar Nagar, and even Mira Road where the demand is high," said a transport official.
