Having an upset stomach is a very uncomfortable situation to be in, as one feels nauseous and does not feel like eating anything. Staying empty stomach can worsen the situation, as your body flushes out essential salts along with water from the body quickly and if you don’t refill it at frequent intervals, it can get dehydrated. Usually, ORS or salt-sugar-water mixture is recommended when you are suffering from loose motions. Apart from this, here are some light food items that will soothe your stomach and cure your upset system in no time.
1. Curd rice
Curd rice is the go-to recipe for an upset stomach as it is quite easy to digest and the fibre content in the dish controls the occurrence of loose motions. All you need to do is overcook some rice and mix them with curd. Add some black salt and roasted cumin powder to it. Mix well and your meal is ready. Curd rice is not only tasty but also an ideal food to have on an empty stomach. Curd is a rich source of probiotics and can restore the balance of good bacteria in the gut.
2. Ginger tea
An upset stomach can bring along stomach ache, nausea, cramps and lightheadedness. Sipping on some ginger tea can bring a wave of relief to your whole body. Just boil a cup of water with some grated ginger in it. Add lemon or honey, as per your taste and strain the tea. Ginger tea can ward off nausea instantly and can also heal your irritated gut. Ginger has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties which work wonders on an upset stomach.
Bananas have a natural antacid effect and can soothe loose motions. Banana is famous for being potassium-rich that increases mucus production in the stomach which has the potential to heal the irritated stomach lining. Banana also gives an instant energy boost which can make you feel better, if you are low on energy because of an upset stomach.
If you feel lightheaded or nauseous when your stomach is upset, then it is best to sip on some Kombucha. It soothes an upset stomach and can also reduce bloating. Make sure you don’t drink a glass full of Kombucha in one go and slowly sip on it for best results. Kombucha is a wonderful probiotic and can also restore the electrolyte balance in the body.
Oats is a delicious yet light meal to have on an empty stomach. You can either make salty oats or sweet oats. Make sure you don’t add any masala in salty oats, as it can further irritate the already upset stomach. It is best to opt for sweet oats, which are cooked in milk. You can also cook the oats in water. Avoid adding nuts or fruits to your oats bowl. If you wish, you can only add half a banana to your oat bowl. Oats are full of fibre and can reduce your frequent visit to the washroom instantly.
