Over 60 cops from three police stations quarantined in Thane

THANE: As many as 31 more policemen from three different police stations in the city have been quarantined as a precautionary measure after following the trail of positive Covid-19 patients till Tuesday.
Meanwhile, faced with a sudden staff crisis, the police department has now managed to rope in staff from other departments to fill in the temporary vacancies at the police stations and ensure there is enough manpower to tackle any challenge.
Sources informed that the worst hit among these three police stations is a suburban unit that has now seen total 42 staff quarantined after 12 more staff were isolated in addition to the previously identified 30 staff. Four other staff of this suburban unit police station have already been tested positive.
A police source added that 15 cops from another police station have also been quarantined after checking the trail of the Covid-19 affected patients. A police station in the main city has seen another four staff quarantined along with an assistant inspector and another constable testing positive.
“No new positive cases have come fore from the police station as on Tuesday,” said a senior police officer.
The police said that they are facing silent crisis following the huge number of staff being quarantined though some make shift arrangements is made with the reserve staff is being replaced with those quarantined.
A senior police officer informed that the vacant seats of the policemen who were quarantined are filled by the reserve police in waiting as well as of those who are in the crime branch and other wings of police. “Once their quarantine period is over, they shall be brought back to their original postings,” said a police officer.
A source added that there is immense pressure on the policemen especially at the police station levels even though staff from other departments are being roped in for the pandemic duty.
