Thane man who underwent two angioplasties dies, toll 9

THANE: A 68-year-old man who had tested positive for Covid-19 died late on Sunday, taking the death toll in Thane city to nine. The deceased had diabetes,blood pressure problem and had undergone two angioplasties.

After he tested positive for Covid-19 at a private hospital, he was shifted to Horizon Prime Hospital on Sunday where he died, said Dr Ram Kendre, in-charge for coronavirus cases in Thane.

The city also recorded around 15 new patients on Monday. Of 241 positive patients in Thane, almost 60% are men. So far, 34 patients who tested positive recovered and were discharged from hospital.

In Thane city, municipal civic commissioner Vijay Singhal ordered that the densely populated Wagle Estate and parts of Lokmanya-Sawarkar Nagar be totally locked down till May 3 as a preventive measure in the wake of a rising number of patients testing positive for coronavirus.

He announced the plans to seal these congested stretches which are dominated with slums. A few chemist shops and dairies will be allowed to operate.

An official said that residents have been breaching lockdown norms due to which the number of positive patients has been increasing. “That is why we are sealing off parts of these areas,” the official said.

The relative of a corona patient was arrested for allegedly manhandling a doctor at a quarantine centre in Thane on Friday.

The man had come to demanded to see the patient who, he said, is his relative, said senior inspector of Kasarwadavali police station, Kishor Khairnar. When a security guard and on-duty doctor, Sunil Patkar, stopped him, he got into a fight and allegedly slapped the doctor. THe police were called and the man was arrested.
