Thane: Need Rs 25 crore to do Covid tests, TMC tells Maharashtra
July 22, 2020
THANE: The Thane civic body, TMC, has sought Rs 25 crore on an emergency basis from the state to continue doing Covid testing as the exercise is "draining its coffers"
A senior bureaucrat from the civic body told TOI that each test costs nearly Rs 2,800 a unit and most patients hail from poor backgrounds. The amount spent so far on the tests was not available at the time of filing this report. Sources hinted that TMC is keen to switch over to the cheaper rapid antigen tests.
TMC chief Dr Vipin Sharma confirmed seeking financial aid. "...We're facing a crunch and have sought Rs 25 crore from the state," he said.
