Ingredients for Homemade Bread Roll Recipe

Refined flour (maida) 2 cups + 2 teaspoons + for dusting
Fresh yeast 2 teaspoons
Castor sugar (caster sugar) 2 teaspoons
Milk powder 2 teaspoons
Salt ½ teaspoon
Butter 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon + for basting
Oil for greasing
Milk for sealing and brushing
Mixed herbs to sprinkle

Method:

Step 1
Take yeast in a small bowl. Add castor sugar and 2-3 tablespoons warm water, mix and set aside for 5 minutes to activate.

Step 2
Take flour in a mixing bowl. Make a wall in the center, add activated yeast, milk powder and salt and mix. Add some water and knead into a soft dough.

Step 3
Add butter and knead again. Cover with damp muslin cloth and set aside to prove for 10-15 minutes.

Step 4
Grease a baking tray with some oil.

Step 5
Dust the worktop with some flour, place the dough and knock back to release excess air.

Step 6

Cover with damp muslin cloth and set aside to prove for 10-15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 180° C.

Step 9
Brush some milk on top of the doughballs and sprinkle some dried mixed herbs. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, basting with some butter.

Step 10
Serve hot with tomato basil soup.
